Introduction - A Hypnotherapy and Fertility Case Study
Are you struggling to conceive and wondering if there’s something else that could help? You might be surprised to learn that hypnotherapy and fertility work really well together for IVF success.
In this blog, you’ll discover how hypnotherapy to get pregnant can help you on your fertility journey by preparing your mind and body for pregnancy so that you can have the best experience possible – just like it did for Mrs E in this real-life case study.
Mrs E’s Fertility Challenges and Emotional Struggles
Mrs E came to see me for hypnotherapy for fertility and sleep issues after four failed rounds of IVF. She had two frozen embryos scheduled for implantation in seven weeks.
Her medical challenges included:
- Long-term infertility
- Sperm issues
- Low egg reserve
- Blood clotting problems
- Immunology treatments
The emotional issues were:
- Grief, stress, anxiety & sadness
- Phobia of hospitals and needles – linked to a childhood operation
- Feeling isolated from friends & family
- Overwhelming feelings of loss and emptiness
- Fear of never having a biological child
How My Hypnotherapy for Fertility Programme Helped Mrs E Achieve IVF Success
After the first session, Mrs E reported that she was already sleeping a bit better. We focused on addressing her biggest fear at that moment – her deep-seated terror that she would never have a biological child.
By the third session, she was feeling noticeably calmer and sleeping much better. However, between sessions, she had a smear test, which triggered old negative emotions. We worked together to remove the severe anxiety she felt about the speculum, ensuring that future procedures would feel much easier for her.
In the fourth session, Mrs E told me that she was handling anxiety far more effectively, and her sleep had continued to improve. We also focused on helping her feel comfortable and at ease in social situations, particularly at gatherings where children were present – something that had previously been very difficult for her.
At the fifth session, we prepared her for an upcoming immunology drip treatment. She was receiving a soya protein-based solution the next day and felt anxious about the procedure. I also taught her a self-hypnosis technique that allowed her to temporarily numb the area of skin, so that she wouldn’t feel any discomfort when she had a needle inserted.
At our next session, she happily reported that the drip had gone amazingly well, and her recent blood test had also been a good experience. As the embryo transfer approached, her apprehension resurfaced – she feared that if it didn’t work, she would be letting her partner down. We worked through these emotions using powerful hypnotherapy techniques, helping her regain confidence and a sense of calm.
Unfortunately, one of the embryos didn’t survive. However, Mrs E managed her response incredibly well. Even the anaesthetist was shocked by the transformation in her mindset and emotional resilience. At this stage, we addressed her lingering fears about not becoming pregnant and having to continue going through IVF yet again.
When the results came back, it was negative – she was not pregnant. But this time, Mrs E handled it very differently. Instead of being overwhelmed by anger and self-blame, as she was every time the IVF cycle was unsuccessful, she now felt much stronger, more resilient and at peace with the process. She wasn’t giving up – she and her husband had already decided to move forward with IVF at a new clinic.
We worked on releasing the negative emotions tied to starting over, allowing her to face the uncertainty of a new cycle with a fresh, positive mindset.
During this phase, she had to administer four progesterone injections daily, which caused severe pain and discomfort. When she arrived for her session, she was visibly struggling – she couldn’t sit still or get comfortable due to the pain. With hypnotherapy techniques, I helped her successfully reduce her pain level from 10/10 to just 3/10, thus making it far more manageable.
In our final session – six months after her first appointment – Mrs E had incredible news. She was pregnant! We then successfully focused on helping her let go of any remaining anxiety and fear that something might take this pregnancy away from her.
Outcome
Eight months later, Mrs E sent me a message with a beautiful photo of her newborn baby girl, thanking me for helping her through her fertility journey.
