What is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is pain that lasts for three months or longer, often continuing even after an injury, illness or medical condition has been treated. It can be constant or come and go, and it affects people in very different ways.
For some people, chronic pain shows up as ongoing back or joint pain. For others, it may involve migraines, nerve pain, fibromyalgia, or pain linked to long-term health conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis.
Over time, chronic pain can affect sleep, mood, energy levels, focus and overall quality of life.
Chronic pain is not “all in your head”. It’s real and complex, and it often involves the nervous system becoming stuck in a heightened state of alert, continuing to send pain signals even when there is no new injury.
